Athens, Georgia has a long history beginning in 1785 founded concurrently with the University of Georgia. Their histories are inextricable from each other. Following in this history, this site is a collaborative effort from commmunity members and researchers from the University of Georgia from across the university examining the Black experience, an under-recorded history, in Athens and in the University from its founding to today.
